(Nov. 6) - The McMurry swim teams competed at the Hendrix Relays Saturday in Conway, Ark. The women had a strong showing, as they were the runners-up as NCAA Division I school The Centenary won the women's meet. The men finished in third place finishing behind The Centenary and Texas-Permian Basin. The women's 400-yard medley relay team of Marlee Hager, Brianne Loya, Shannon Brooks and Balaun Squires finished second with a time of 4:26.09.
Hager and teammates Megan Knight and Laryn Sanford also finished second in the women's 300-yard backstroke relay. Hager, Loya and Brooks also teamed up to place second in the women's 300-yard medley relay with a time of 3:25.24 finishing just under seven seconds off the leader. Hager, Loya, Brooks and Squires placed second in the 200-yard medley relay as well. The McMurry men placed as high as third in several of its relays. The tandem of Peter Neumann, David Lopez and Scott Eakin finished third place in the men's 300-yard medley relay with a time of 2:58.48. The time was just 11 seconds off The Centenary's winning time of 2:47.81.
Eakin and Lopez teamed up with Craig Osterman and Geoff Colburn to finish in third place in the men's 200-yard medley relay. Their time of 1:43.17 was just over three seconds off The Centenary's winning mark of 1:39.85. McMurry placed third in the event. The teams get a two-week break before heading to Dallas to face more NCAA Division II competition Nov. 18. McMurry will compete against Trinity, Southwestern and Austin College for the third time this season.
