ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University beat Concordia-Texas at its own game Saturday using an up-tempo style to defeat the Tornados 97-80 at Kimbrell Arena. McMurry shot 51 percent for the contest and had five players score in double figures to record its 10th win in American Southwest Conference play.

Jamal Anene had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead McMurry and he had three blocked shots. Steven Luckey scored a season-high 19 points, Ryan Boyd scored a season-high 18, Jeremie Hart had a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards and Joshua Sanchez scored 10 points off the bench for the second-straight game.

CTX's Nick Haynes gave the Tornados its last lead of the game in the first half when his 3-pointer put them up 19-18 with 11:35 left before halftime. However, Anene hit a jumper with 10:50 left to give McMurry back the lead and the home team never looked back.

Robert Moreno had three points, three steals and 10 assists to pace McMurry's offensive effort. McMurry hit 34 of 67 shots in front of a reunion of players from the three seasons spanning from 1998-2001. The former players honored for their time and combined for 73-9 record were treated to McMurry's second-highest point total of the season.

Concordia-Texas had three players in double figures with Brad Walker leading the way with 17 points. Kenny Williams and Haynes each had a dozen, and on the defensive end, the Tornados put in a solid effort with 14 blocks with Collin Perkins leading all players with four.

However, McMurry scored 23 points above its season average of 74 points and held CTX to a 43-percent shooting effort and just a 7 of 23 performance from behind the 3-point arc.

McMurry improved to 12-6 overall and moved to 10-4 in ASC competition while the Tornados fell to 10-9 overall and 8-7 in league play.

McMurry returns to action Monday night across town against Hardin-Simmons at 7:30 p.m.
