Olivares wins ASC West Division Player of the Week award for men's tennis

Daniel Olivares became the third consecutive men's tennis player at McMurry to earn the ASC West Player of the Week award
ABILENE, Texas - Daniel Olivares won the third consecutive American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week award for McMurry men's tennis as the junior from Houston went undefeated on the singles court last week and split on doubles to help McMurry claim its second ASC West Division title.

Olivares defeated Howard Payne's Jeff Toyne 6-1, 6-0 April 13 to help McMurry take a 6-3 win and ensure at least a share of the ASC West title. However, McMurry and Olivares took sole possession of the divisional championship when the team defeated Hardin-Simmons 6-3.

Against Hardin-Simmons, Olivares defeated Cullen Dees on the No. 3 singles court 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 and teamed up with Levi Cockrill to defeat the Cowboys' Trey Chavez and Tony Record 8-2 on the No. 2 doubles court.

For the regular season, Olivares had an impressive singles court record of 14-4. He will help lead McMurry as the No. 1 west seed in this weekend's ASC Postseason Tournament hosted by UT-Tyler.

Brent Abilez and Bryan Rainwater each won the ASC West Division Player of the Week award in each of the last two weeks respectively for McMurry.
