Petree adds former ETBU head coach to staff

ABILENE, Texas - In the early portion of the decade, Cammie Petree and Suzanne “Wingrove” Truitt squared off in some fierce cross-division battles across the net in the American Southwest Conference. Petree's most successful volleyball teams with McMurry University came over a three-year span from 2002-04, which were the same years that Truitt's East Texas Baptist Tigers won three straight ASC titles.

Now, in 2010, Petree and Truitt will join forces as Petree announced Friday that the former ETBU head coach will join McMurry's volleyball staff as an assistant.

Suzanne Truitt
“I am so pleased to add Suzanne to our coaching staff.  She is not only my friend and colleague but an exceptional coach with a wealth of knowledge and experience,” said Petree of the new hire. “Her expertise and ability to succeed at the collegiate level is going to be a tremendous asset to our program.  I am so thankful she has joined forces with McMurry; I  know I'm going to like having her on our side of the net.”

Truitt coached the Tigers from 2001-2006 where she won three ASC Tournament championships, made four ASC Tournament appearances and was named the ASC East Division Coach of the Year on two different occasions. Her daughter, Carmyn Wingrove, also played volleyball for McMurry as a setter during the 2009 season.

Prior to her arrival at McMurry, Truitt moved to Abilene in 2008 and worked in an accounting firm. She also has experience in the oil and gas business and as a teacher.

At ETBU in six seasons, she compiled a 117-58 overall record and posted an outstanding 69-11 record against ASC opponents. In 2002, both Truitt and Petree led their respective teams to perfect 12-0 records within their divisions to win the ASC East and ASC West titles respectively. ETBU went on, however, to win the tournament championship.

Truitt replaces Helle Voskuil who served as an assistant for five seasons. McMurry's volleyball team posted an 18-12 record in 2009 and advanced to the second round of the ASC Tournament. The players report in preparation for the 2010 season on Aug. 15 and McMurry begins the season Aug. 3-4 in San Antonio at the Trinity Tigers Invitational.
