McMurry wins first match in ASC Tournament 3-2 against UMHB

RICHARDSON, Texas – McMurry University wins the first match of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Thursday evening against Mary Hardin-Baylor, 21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16, 17-15. McMurry won the final set after three set points to finally put them away on a Bailey Marcum kill.  
 
The War Hawks have four players record double-digit kills, hitting .253 as a team. Marcum recorded 16 kills, 18 digs and three service aces on the match. Stephanie Henry and M.J. Vickers recorded 15 and 13 kills respectively. Kasi Conners aided the offense with 10 kills and anchored the defense recording seven blocks. Bailey Wilson recorded six services aces and 21 digs in the contest.
 
UMHB's Christina Miller recorded the game high 24 kills helping her team to a .224 hitting percentage. The Cru's Elise Butler 19 digs on the night. The loss moves UMHB to the losers bracket of the double elimination tournament.
 
The War Hawks will play the winner of the Hardin-Simmons, Texas-Dallas match tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the third round of the ASC Tournament. The win takes McMurry to 27-3 overall on the season. The loss UMHB to 21-10 on the year.
