ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University women's swimming team (2-1) defeated Wayland Baptist University, 82-73, while the McM men (0-3) lost by a 161-34 margin in a dual meet at the Phillips Family Center.
Sophomore
Robyn Remschel was a double winner for the War Hawk women, taking top honors in both the 100 yard backstroke (59.43) and the 50-yard freestyle (25.98).
Katie Gorka won the women's 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 12:22.88 minutes. Freshman
Monica Flores won the 200 individual medley, touching at 2:25.31 minutes.
Sophomore
Zandria Rodriguez was McM's other winner, finishing first in the 100 butterfly at 1:08.63 minutes. Rodriguez was also third in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.65).
Kelly McNamee was second in the 200 freestyle (2:11.27) and third in the 100 backstroke (1:06.44).
Kelsey Hill earned a second in the 100 freestyle (1:01.12).
On the men's side, McMurry was dominated by a strong Pioneers' squad, which won every event. However, the War Hawks did have several top efforts in the men's segment.
Craig Bell was the runner-up in the men's 200 individual medley in a clocking of 2:16.15. Teammate
Christian Chavez was fourth in the race at 2:22.14.
In the 100 backstroke,
Kent Grimes also picked up a second place in a time of 57.14 seconds. In the 200 freestyle, freshman
Andrew Jarrett was third place at 1:59.24 minutes.
