Three War Hawks Earn NCCAA Weekly Honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Three McMurry University scholar-athletes were named as National Christian College Athletic Association "Student-Athlete of the Week" for their respective sports.  The trio includes men's cross country runner Michael Benoit (Abilene, Texas), women's cross country runner Kirsten DeFrance (Odessa, Texas) and football defensive back Jordan Washington (Pflugerville, Texas).

Benoit, a sophomore, ran the second-fastest 5K time in school history to finish third (out of 81 competitors) at the University of Dallas Invitational. Benoit crossed the finish line in a time of 16:16.9 minutes.

DeFrance, a senior, earned her third top-10 finish in five races this season. At the University of Dallas Invitational, DeFrance was 10th out of 78 runners in the event. She finished in a time of 20:20.5 minutes for then 5K course.

McM junior Washington – who was also the American Southwest Conference's defensive "Player of the Week" – set an ASC single game record for interception return yards with 155 in his team's 56-7 win at Belhaven. Washington had two "picks" of 73 yards (for a touchdown) and 82 yards.  He also had three tackles and a fumble recovery, as the McM defense held the ASC's top passing team to 263 yards in the air (185 yards below its average).
